About Lisa F. Pugh, LPC

Pursuing a counseling appointment can be anxiety provoking.  To help ease your anxiety, I thought it might be helpful to know a little about me.  I am a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in Christian counseling for all ages, abilities and levels of faith on a variety of life's issues.  My private practice is located in Christiansburg, VA.

With over 25 years experience in mental health and counseling in a variety of settings, I have a wide range of experience with all ages.  In the beginning years, I volunteered at the Women's Resource Center of NRV and Saint Albans Hospital. I completed my internships with Montgomery County Public Schools (Shawsville area).  My work experience has been at Lewis Gale Psychiatric CenterNew River Valley Community Services Blue Ridge Behavioral HealthcareCreative Family Solutions and Roanoke  City  Public Schools (Monterey Elementary School).  I have extensive experiences with individuals and (their families/caregivers) with severe mental illness and intellectual disabilities.  I am a graduate of Radford Universitywith a BS in Psychology and a MS in Counseling and Human Development.  I am licensed as a school counselor.  And, I am a National Certified Counselor.

I am a solution-focused therapist. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help you effectively address personal life challenges.  I integrate biblical counseling with complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored for you. With compassion and understanding, I will work with you to help you build on your strengths and attain the personal growth that God wants for you. Tiffany and I met in 2010 when we both worked as NRVCS School Based Counselors in Shawsville.  We found out that we shared the same desire to help others through Christian counseling.  We make a good team.

I am still growing as a Christian and as a counselor.  I am committed to continuing my education.  Currently, I am enrolled  in 2 enrichment classes (Apologetics & Ministry to Children and Youth) through the E4-12 program at Piedmont International University.  By being a member of ACAVCA  and AACC, I attend workshops and receive updates on current treatment issues.  My love of helping others started as a child and has continued to be a calling.  I am a member of Trinity Community Church.

On a personal note, I was the primary caregiver for my mother (died November 2016).  My father died suddenly nine days later.  So, I strongly identify with grief and caregiver issues.  Landscaping my yard and bird watching are my favorite hobbies.  My home and family have many rescued fur babies.  I also care for feral cats by learning to trap through Animal Hope Alliance and take care of a feral colony. I was born and raised in the NRV . Most importantly, I love God and have a desire to help you.  If you are ready to start your journey, feel free to contact me.
