Lisa F. Pugh, LPC

Pursuing a counseling appointment can be anxiety provoking. To help ease your anxiety, I thought it might be helpful to know a little about me. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in Christian counseling for adults primarily by telehealth.  With over 30 years experience in mental health and counseling in a variety of settings, I have a wide range of experience with all ages. In the beginning years, I volunteered at the Women's Resource Center of NRV and Saint Albans Hospital. I completed my internships with Montgomery County Public Schools (Shawsville area). My work experience has been at Lewis Gale Psychiatric Center , New River Valley Community Services , Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare , Creative Family Solutions and Roanoke City Public Schools ( Monterey Elementary School ). I have extensive experiences with individuals and (their families/caregivers) with severe mental illness and intellectual disabilities. I am a graduate of Radford University with a BS in Psychology and a MS in Counseling and Human Development. I am licensed as a school counselor . And, I am a National Certified Counselor.

I am a solution-focused therapist. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help you effectively address personal life challenges. I integrate biblical counseling with complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored for you. With compassion and understanding, I will work with you to help you build on your strengths and attain the personal growth that God wants for you.

I am still growing as a Christian and as a counselor. I am committed to continuing my education. By being a member of ACA , VCA and AACC , I attend workshops and receive updates on current treatment issues. My love of helping others started as a child and has continued to be a calling. I am a member of Trinity Community Church.

On a personal note, I was the primary caregiver for my mother (died November 2016). My father died suddenly nine days later. So, I strongly identify with grief and caregiver issues. Landscaping my yard and bird watching are my favorite hobbies. My home and family have many rescued fur babies.  In the past,  I enjoyed TNR for feral cats  through Animal Hope Alliance and take care of a feral colony. I was born and raised in the NRV . Most importantly, I love God and have a desire to help you. If you are ready to start your journey, feel free to contact me.
